Internet of Things (IoT)

The Internet of Things (IoT) is a phrase used to describe the vision of interconnecting (via the Internet) billions of products that, when compared to laptops and smartphones, would traditionally be considered “dumb”, unconnected devices.

These may include household appliances, remote sensors of all kinds, baby monitors, industrial motors and many more.

Today, IoT product engineering services focus on transforming these everyday devices into intelligent, connected systems that collect data, automate processes, and enable real-time decision making across consumer, commercial, and industrial environments.

What Is the Internet of Things (IoT)?

In most cases of IoT, some version of the end device already exists, and the new technology introduced in IoT is the connection. In many cases, the desire to drive cost down, or maintain mobility of the device, a wireless connection is the preferred technology.

Internet of Things (IoT) development typically centers on adding secure wireless connectivity, embedded intelligence, and cloud integration to existing products.

As wireless connections are the preferred technology for IoT, Vanteon is the preferred resource for developing these wireless connections.

Wireless Connectivity and Device Engineering

Vanteon has delivered hundreds of design projects over the 30+ years of development that, in some way or another, involve the use of wireless technology. Whether designing a WiFi connected door opener, writing drivers for a Bluetooth connected sensor, or designing a complete system for internet-controlled building automation using Zigbee or other wireless technology, Vanteon has likely done something similar to your specific need.

This real-world experience supports Internet of Things (IoT) product design across diverse applications, helping organizations transform concepts into reliable connected devices.

Internet of Things (IoT) Protocols and Wireless Technologies

When it comes to wireless technology, standard wireless protocols are only the beginning. Not only has Vanteon designed many products using standards like WiFi, Cellular, Bluetooth, and Zigbee, but many designs have been done using lesser known technologies such as RFID, NFC, LoRa, Dust, WiSUN, Enocean, WiMAX, WiMedia, DVB, ATSC, GMRS, FRS, UWB, and many others.

In addition to designing an extensive list of products for Vanteon clients, we also have developed internal Intellectual Property (IP) to decrease risk and get client products to market very quickly. Click here to see Vanteon IP platforms designed for IoT applications.
