Vanteon Engineer Awarded Best Paper at 2011 Wireless Innovations Forum Conference

Rochester, New York (December 19, 2011) Vanteon Corporation, an electronic systems design and engineering services company, is pleased to announce that the Wireless Innovations Forum has extended the award of Best Paper in Research and Development to Aaron Roof, a Principal RF Engineer at Vanteon. Vanteon recently showcased its talent and experience in RF design at the 2011 Wireless Innovation Forum Conference on Communications Technologies and Software Defined Radio, highlighted by Mr. Roof’s presentation of his paper to an audience of engineers and technical professionals. The event, SDR’11 – WInnComm, was held in Arlington, VA from November 29 to December 2.

As a result of the award, Mr. Roof, a PhD candidate at the State University of New York at Buffalo, along with his advisor, Dr. Adly T. Fam, have been invited to publish the winning paper titled Classification of Multiple Signals Using 2D Matching of Magnitude-Frequency Density Features in a future edition of Analog Integrated Circuits and Signal Processing, an international journal published by Springer.

The paper introduces a technique for collapsing received waveforms into histograms to create a two dimensional image of the signal space. This image is a useful visualization tool in the characterization of the signal space and can be automated by utilizing pattern recognition and image processing algorithms. Mr. Roof’s unique and efficient algorithm is of benefit for any firm that wishes to analyze spectra and classify signals.

As one of the conference exhibitors, Vanteon brought a practical viewpoint to SDR applications. Vanteon has over 25 years of experience in developing next-generation solutions in the embedded and wireless spaces. The Wireless Innovation Forum’s acknowledgment of Mr. Roof’s accomplishments for his paper in the advancement of reconfigurable radio technology is a reflection of his dedication to his clients.

Joe Burke, CEO of Vanteon, expressed “We are all so proud of Aaron’s accomplishment. It is rewarding to be recognized by the premier conference in the wireless community as a significant contributor in this focus area for Vanteon. We look forward to applying this and other creative techniques in the unique array of solutions we deliver.”
